Sunshine = happiness!

The park this morning
As I woke up this morning, I realised something was different ... it wasn't raining, the sun was shining and the sky was blue! After leaving my four-year to pre-school, I set off on a run. It's amazing how much better everything looks in the sunshine. When I reached the park I realised that I had forgotten something very important in my last blog post (I hate the rain!). Sunshine and warm weather makes me feel extremely happy!!

Life is just so much better in the sun ... the children and I can play in the garden, we don't need to wear layers of clothing and bring coats when we go out, just in case it starts raining, and the washing dries!! We can relax, have a barbecue, sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine after the children have gone to bed.

Even though it's now evening and dark outside, I am still in a positive, happy mood. Long may the sunshine continue ...

  1. I have been following your blog for a while now, and I must tell you that I really look forward to reading your unique take on life as a yummy mummy. I tried writing a blog myself once, but I soon realised that it just wasn't very interesting so I gave up.

PS - I also hate the rain and love the sun. I can eat potatoes though.

  2. My Shania hates the sun, I swear she'd rather sit in a dirty nappy than go out in it. I make her anyway cos I know it's good for her but I keep my iPod earphones in to drown out the whailing. Is it possible to get dark glasses for a six month old? I seen some things called doggles for small dogs and was nearly tempted! Luv'n your blog Sarah, any opinions on good baby drinks? Rhania

  3. Oh Sarah, I know exactly how you feel. I live in Bagshot in Surrey and know how horrid the weather can be, especially our so called "summers". Mind you, I've heard it is much worse up north.

Like yourself, I have three beautiful children who just love the sun and outdoor lifestyle. Flora, my eldest is an excellent swimmer and with a little more practice will be competing for GB in a couple of years. While we have an indoor swiming pool, you just can't beat being outdoors to train so she and I spend a lot of time at our villa in France just so she can practice.

We have a similar problem when it comes to my eldest son, Tristan. He is just mad about golf and insists that he and his father summer in America so that he doesn't have to play in the rain!

    Absolutely love your blog Sarah!

    Much love, Arabella xx

  4. My wife's a big fan of this page and I said I'd never read such crap as yummy mummy stuff but, to be fair, your writing is very good, very homely and conversational, it's like I'm sitting beside you. It's weird I hate rain too - I hate getting wet unlike my wife who loves getting wet especially outdoors, I think she must be Scottish! Other people's skin feels better in the sun too, kissably so don't you think? I was a naturist when I was younger before I met my wife and at the camps we had sun parties, oh the fun, I miss it terribly but my wife thinks it's disgusting.

  5. To Arabella (above), you don't mention your third child. Are they into sports too? I love reading about Sarah's Sophie and her dancing and running, and Luke and his rugby. I'm sure Abigail will turn out to be sporty too, just like her super fit mum.

Unfortunately my two aren't really into sports. Still, I try to encourage them - though this sports day was so bad that I'm tempted to keep them off next year. If only watching TV was a sport, they would win every time! I can't get them away from the thing, how do you do it Sarah and Arabella??

  6. Sarah i just wanted to say,
After months of opions you still make my day!
Reporting it as it is, you know the score
And you always leave me wanting more!

Hope you dont mind i just tell it as i see,
Your such an inspiration to a new mum like me!
Others I find just can't compete
Usually i'm on the edge of my seat.

Reading about you just rings true with me,
But thankfully i can eat potatoes, tee hee!
Laughing and thinking and wondering too,
Opinonatied mum brings it all right on cue!

Girl I hope you don't mind my little rhyme
See I just thought it was time
    Underrecognised yummy mummys
Carrying all the love in their tummies
Kudos to all of us and to you......

Someone who represents.... Woo hoo for you!

  7. I think it's time we all just accepted whatever weather God has chosen to give us. It is His will, and I just feel so, so thankful that He is here with us and that He sent His only son to die for our sins.

  8. Hi Donna,

Oh yes, I do have a third child. Flora and Tristan have a younger brother; Gordon. Unfortunately, Flora and Tristan are so incredibly talented that Gordon doesn't push himself to reach their standard. His father and I have hired coached and retired sporting personalities to try to help him but in the end we just had to send him to boarding school and hope for the best. Flora won yet another gold in the county swimming gala this week (I really don't know where to put all her trophies) but when we told Gordon he just wanted to know if we could go to McDonald's to celebrate. I just despair.

    Toodles for now,
    Arabella xx

  9. Arabella I am in awe of your life, I am so glad to hear that you have 'a Gordon', although Shania is our first and only I already think she is 'a Gordon' - yaps at everything, she's a right pain in the behind, bath too hot, food too cold. My partner and I are thinking about having another and keeping Rhania in the garage as a kind of 'control' in the experimental sense! I think we all have Gordons, break off contact with him for a while and force him to see that love is a privilege and not a right. Shania.

  10. Thanks for all the comments. I've been on holiday so didn't have computer access, so sorry for not replying to the comments earlier.

Rhania, in relation to your question about dark glasses for babies, I got a pair a few years ago which wrapped around a baby's head. I think they were called Babybanz. I got them from John Lewis but I'm sure you can get them elsewhere too. Also, regarding baby drinks, I only gave my baby water until she turned one and now give her fruit juice at breakfast and the occasional diluted juice. I had tried my elder daughter on baby juice but she didn't like it.

Donna, regarding tv watching, I have started switching it off at certain times although we still have lazy days when they watch too much. We try to get out in the garden and go to the park as much as possible.

  11. Thanks for the reply Sarah, I check a lot and it's been a while. Just to make sure, you never switch off during Jeremy Kyle, do you???

Hope you and your lovely lovely family are well,

    LOVE,

  12. Donna, I prefer The Wright Stuff on five! Really wish there were some decent programmes on in the evening, once the kids have gone to bed. Really missing Desperate Housewives and The Apprentice!

  13. Shania,

I too have a "Rhania" which I want to lock away in the garage. Don't get me wrong, she's a great girl....eats everything she's given, sleeps 12 hours a night since she was 6 weeks old, is very polite and does very well at school but she is just so ugly. Her dad and I would love another child, especially now that Zoe is 8 but we are just far too afraid that they will be a minger like Zoe. The doctor keeps saying that she's far too young for cosmetic surgery but I'm looking into a clinic in Mexico which don't ask too may questions.

    Heather.

  14. Sarah, I watched the Wright Stuff today (I recorded Jeremy Kyle just in case), and it was really interesting. There was a phone in about not leaving your new baby for its first year, and I was so hoping you would ring in with an opinion on that! Maybe one day you'll even be on the panel!

I love the Apprentice and Desperate Housewives too, and I also like comedies like My Family and Miranda.

Thank you for the tip, I'll definitely keep watching the Wright stuff from now on,

    Donna xx

  15. Donna,
Glad you enjoyed the Wright Stuff, I missed it today, which is a pity as that sounds like an interesting phone in. Would love to be on the panel, it looks fun.
I love Miranda too. Last week's episode was so funny!
